Sprinter / Marathon Runner

posted Nov 7, 2013, 12:04 PM by Er Fitness

Ever notice the difference between a 100m sprinter and a marathon runner?  Both body types are the product of the way they train.  Today I see many in youth sports training like a marathon runner expecting sprinter results.  The body uses three main energy systems and the intensity and duration of the sport determines how and which one should be trained the most.

In-season Strength Training?

Spring sports has started and there is one huge mistake many high school coaches make every season, no in-season strength training program.  Don't we want our players peaking at the end of the season?  Practice is now priority one but if we want them competing for gold when it counts they must continue to lift!

Kettle Bells

Back in the 1800s Kettle bells were used by Russian farmers as counterweights.  After lifting and swinging them all day significant strength increases occurred and the rest, as they say, is history.  With a thick handle and a center of mass that is displaced from the grip, that bad boys added instability recruits more muscle.  Give it a try you'll like the results!
