Multi-Directional Athlete

Is your youngster a multi directional athlete?  If so you may want to reconsider having them run mile after mile after mile to "get them in shape."  Aside from having no carryover effect to anaerobic sports it could also play a role in the dreaded ACL injury for females.  Accelerating and decelerating rely heavily on fast twitch motor units which are not activated during steady state aerobics.  If your kid wants to be fast he or she must train fast.
