Athletes need to be Explosive

To be an explosive athlete one must have a combination of strength and speed. Most high school programs overemphasize strength with the common question among boys that age being, "how much can you bench?"  The problem is one can be strong and slow and that is a recipe for a lot of bench time.  Great athletes are always explosive and that explosiveness is a product of strength times speed.  Unless the athlete is running cross country he or she must train for both.
